ANAMBRA STATE DEPUTY GOVERNOR DR. ONYEKACHUKWU IBEZIM MEETS WITH THE FLOOD RESPONSE TEAM


In a bid to mitigate the negative effects of flooding in the lives of some residents living in the flood prone areas of the state, the Deputy Governor, Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim met with the flood response committee to identify areas of concern and deliberate on solutions. Note that the committee is entrusted with the responsibility of making sure that the victims of flood are evacuated, protected and provided for  in their various camps. 


Mr. Deputy Governor charged the team to be proactive, examined the level of preparedness and  mandated that quality food of home standards with  quality drugs be made available at the holding centres where the food victims will be camped. He requested for efficiency in the activation of sub committees of the group which according to him, will help speed up actions at the local level.


On his part, the executive secretary of State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Chief Paul Odenigbo assured all present of the preparedness of the committee stating that the standard work plan is being followed. 


The state's Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Felix Odimegwu gave a detailed evaluation of the 2022 flood response and referred to it as a foundation for improving efforts towards mitigating the effects of the 2023 flooding. He assured all present of the provision of convenient environments, adequate food  supplies, quality health care services, recreational activities and more at the holding centres. 


The Transition Committee Chairman of Anambra East local government, Hon. Felix Ikechi on behalf of other affected TC chairmen, appreciated the proactive measures undertaken by the government  towards curbing the 2023 flooding. He promised to inform and educate the people on the need to harvest their crops on time, preserve them properly and moving their household to the holding centres

ahead of time just as provided by the state government.


Also present during the meeting were the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Forster Ihejiofor, his Transport counterpart Mrs Patricia Igwebuike, Permanent secretary office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Uzoka.


Others include the TC chairman of Ayamelum, Hon. Linus Onyenwe, His Awka North, Ekwusigo, Ogbaru and Anambra East counterparts Hon. Thankgod Anago, Hon. Chimezie Obi, Hon. Aniebonam Pascal and Hon. Pascal Onuorah. Hon. CY Agupugo the Executive Director of SEMA and representative from the Women and Children Affairs ministry were equally present.
