Inaugural meeting of the state boundary committee.

On Thursday, 6th July, 2023, the official  inaugural meeting of the State Boundary Committee took place at the MDG's conference hall, Government House, Awka. 


The meeting began with a rendition of the national anthem followed by the state anthem. Ms. Chioma Nwamah, moderated the event and introduced all present as well as enumerated the agenda for the meeting. 


The Special Assistant to the Governor on Boundary, Hon. Ekene Okoye took the floor after the introductions. He traced the history of the committee, the rationale behind its institution and hierarchy. 

 

The Deputy Governor,Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, in his opening remarks, addressed the new members of the boundary committee and tasked them with making objective decisions influenced by nothing more than the facts presented before them. Quoting Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the Governor, Dr Ibezim reminded all that "Land is the most precious commodity". This, is in view of the erosion menace that has bedevilled the land for decades. He advised members of the committee to write their names in gold by discharging their duties without hankering after unworthy remunerations.


Hon. Tony Nwabunwanne, the Commissioner for Local Government spoke next on the relationship between the security agencies and traditional rulers. He expressed his delight at the decorum and mutual respect exhibited by the agencies and charged them to continue to toe this path. 


After his speech, the event was concluded with the singing of the national & state anthems.
