SOLUDO HOSTS SOUTH EAST ZONAL SUMMIT ON PRIMARY HEALTHCARE DELIVERY.
Anambra State Governor, Prof Charles Soludo on Wednesday 21st June, 2023 hosted the First Quarter Review Meeting of South East Traditional Rulers Committee on Primary Healthcare Delivery. This auspicious event was facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Health in collaboration with the National Primary Healthcare Delivery Agency (NPHCDA), World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
In the opening remark, the Executive Director/CEO of NPHCDA, Dr. Faisal Shuaib highlighted the efforts of the development partners WHO and UNICEF towards increasing the efficiency of services rendered at the grassroot.
The WHO and UNICEF were well represented by Dr. Walter Kazadi Mulombo and Ms Cristian Munduate.In his speech, the WHO representative, Dr. Walter, regretted that only 10% of the targeted persons has been enumerated and captured, He implored the traditional rulers to make good use of their office in ensuring that all targeted persons are captured.
Amb. Lawrence Agbuzu in his capacity as the Chairman of the South East Council of Traditional Rulers appreciated the Anambra State Governor for hosting what he described as an "Auspicious Event", and futher introduced other traditional Rulers in attendance.
In his keynote Address, Anambra State Governor,who was ably represented by his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, emphasized the administration's efforts towards improving healthcare delivery in the state . Such initiatives as the recruitment of over three hundred (300) health workers, the upgrading of several general hospitals by the "SOLUTION" government, organizing outreaches and free sensitization programmes amongst others, has yielded a dramatic turnaround in the health care sector.
While reflecting on the Nigerian Healthcare system, He also pointed out the indices for a working healthcare system which are the Maternal mortality, Infants mortality and Children Under five mortality rate which he said were 804 in 1000 persons for the Maternal mortality rate, 71 in 1000 for Infant mortality rate and 104 in 1000 for the Children Under five. With approval from all present, he stated that previously endangered communities in volatile areas now have access to proper medical care due to the administration's commitment to all-round development. He further, enjoined all to key into the SOLUTION government's dedication to creating an Anambra to be envied in the coming years.
Also present at today's event were the South East States' Chairmen of Council of Traditional Rulers and other Eminent Traditional rulers in the South East.
