SOLUDO FLAGS-OFF MATERNAL NEWBORN AND CHILD HEALTH WEEK.

In line with the administrations commitment to ensuring the Good Health and Wellbeing of all Anambarians. The Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukuwma Soludo flagged off the Maternal Newborn and Child health week on Tuesday, 27th June, 2023 at the Civic Center, Umueri in Aguleri. 


     We would recall that the representatives from UNICEF payed the Governor a courtesy visit, yesterday ahead of Flag-off Ceremony in Umueri. Following this visit the MNCHW was launched with Pregnant women, Nursing mothers and their newborns, toddlers all in attendance. 


   The Program which featured the Provision of  Folic acid supplements to nursing and pregnant mothers who are anaemic, Counselling affected parents on proper nutrition, Providing deworming commodities recorded a massive turnout from the Pregnant women, Nursing mothers and their newborns, toddlers who were present to receive counseling and supplements.


  To open the floor for the event, The TC Chairman of Anambra East, Dr. Anslem  Onuorah welcomed the Dignitaries present.The Igwe of Umueri, His Royal Highness Ben Emeka 2 , in his opening speech, thanked Governor Soludo for the Good works he has been doing in the state especially for his town Umueri, He stated that the General Hospital being built by the Government is one that the community has long waited for and that this development brings great Joy to the community. He also pointed out that the PHC Otuocha Ward 2 which is in Umueri has been facing issues of Ownership as another body claims right to the hospital, He appealed to the government to intervene on the matter as the Primary Health care center is located in Umueri and not in another community.


     The State's Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike while speaking at the event, thanked the UNICEF for this wonderful initiative. He further explained the essence of the ceremony and Why it is important that both mother and child receives the best healthcare service possible. He assured the indigenes of the administration's comittement to providing Quality Healthcare delivery across the state as he noted that a Padeatrician will be added to the Primary Health Center, Umueri. He also said that this program will be replicated in other towns across the state. 



    In his Opening remark Governor Soludo who was ably represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim thanked everyone present at the event, He also affirmed the Governor's Comittement to improving Healthcare delivery across the state which is one of the Key pillars of the people's manifesto. He further spoke on the need to incorporate mineral supplements into the children's diet as it would not only boost their immune system but would also promote good health in the children. He stated that one of the reasons for this gathering was not only to counsel them on the need to have a balanced diet but to also provide them with these supplements. 



    In his Closing remark,the deputy governor noted that the raining season is here, and that the government is working towards providing indigenes with a safe place during the flood. He advised all present to stay ready in order not to be caught unawares as the government will provide all the help necessary to ensure their safety and comfort. 


     After his speech, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim went ahead to flag-off the event as he gave out Folic acid supplements to the pregnant women and also Deworming medicine and mineral supplements to the children. The supplements were further distributed to all present at the ceremony by other Healthcare workers.

Ms. Nemat Hajaeebhoy - ( Chief on Nutrition, UNICEF), Nkeiruka Enwelum - (UNICEF Nutrition Office, Abuja), Ngọzi Onuora - Enugu Field Office, UNICEF. Mr. Emeka Ekealor ( APGA Local Government chairman), Traditional title holders and Primary Health care workers.

SOLUDO HONOURED AS CHAMPIONS NEWSPAPER GOVERNOR OF THE YEAR ON INFRASTRUCTURE AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT.
