ANAMBRA STATE DEPUTY GOVERNOR MEETS AWA AND UFUMA COMMUNITY ON PEACEFUL BOUNDARY RESOLUTION.
Community leaders and stakeholders from both Awa and Ufuma communities converged at the Deputy Governor's conference room before the State Boundary Committee on Thursday, 22nd June, 2023 for the peaceful resolution of an age-long boundary dispute that has soured relations between the communities. The meeting was presided over by the Deputy Governor, Dr Onyeka Ibezim who is also the Chairman of the State Boundary Committee.
Representatives of Ufuma community were led by the Traditional Ruler, His Royal Highness, Igwe S.C Uchima, while Awa community was represented by the past and present PGs, Cabinet chiefs and a Former Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof S.A. Obikeze.
Each side presented their case before the committee members and provided clarifications when called upon to do so. While addressing the parties present, His Excellency asked that civility and a pursuit of peaceful coexistence should be their beacon to the settlement of this dispute.
After a fruitful deliberation with the Anambra State Boundary Committee, the two communities agreed to go back home and bury the hatchet. It is worthy of note that the dispute has lasted for some decades and has been a source of concern to the committee and the government as a whole. In the spirit of brotherliness, Awa and Ufuma communities agreed unanimously to initiate a withdrawal of the suit from the Supreme Court.
In his closing remarks, His Excellency commended the two communities, especially HRH. Igwe S.C who initiated the move for out-of-court settlement.
