ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNOR INAUGURATES TRUTH, JUSTICE AND PEACE COMMISSION TODAY IN AWKA.

The stakeholders' summit for Anambra State Truth, Justice and Peace Commission (TJPC)  set the pace for the task of inquiring into the root cause of insecurity and infighting bedeviling certain quarters of the state.


The commission which is chaired by renowned human rights activist, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, has H.E Amb. Bianca Ojukwu as its secretary, and the likes of the Chief Justice of Anambra State, Prof. Sylvia C. Ifemeje as members. The above-mentioned were present at the summit today. Also in attendance were majority leader of ASHA, the clergy and members of the Traditional Rulers Council. 

The following organisations were represented:

Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo, ASATU, ASMATA,and several students' body executives.

 

In his speech, Mr. Governor, represented by the Deputy, Dr Onyeka Ibezim, tasked the commission with the following:

i. Identifying the remote & immediate causes of the agitations, restiveness,violence, and armed struggle in the South East since 1999.

ii. Documenting the victims of death, brutality, brutality, and incarceration.

iii. Identifying stakeholders and groups who have played critical roles in the agitations and conflicts. 

iv. Addressing other issues that may be germane to unravelling the extent of the crisis and chatting roadmaps for the future.

v. Making recommendations for sustainable peace and security in Anambra State and the South-East.


Mr. Governor, who was represented by Mr. Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim eulogised the efforts of Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, H.E Amb. Bianca Ojukwu in galvanising this restoration force. He expressed his faith in their doggedness, commitment to routing violence and securing the lives and property of ndị Anambra.
